IIn tribute ~

Uncle George was passionate about passing on knowledge and wisdom through ancient Hawaiian hula and chant – not just to the people of Hawai’i but to people everywhere.  In the very first chant he passed to me he pointed to one of the words ~ pua ~ and said:  ‘Pua means flower … at a deeper level of translation it means children – not just the children of the Hawai’ian islands, but the children of the human race.’  He told me he believed it was essential to share wisdom to support people in knowing how to create harmony and beauty in the world.

In that spirit, Uncle George first came to Australia in 1996 to teach Hawaiian ancient hula and chant as part of an event designed to bridge cultures and to bridge from ancient wisdom to the present to a sustainable future.  The Rainbow Bridge brought together Hawaiian and Australian Aboriginal elders and a group of people from different countries, and it fulfilled its intention.  Uncle’s contribution was extraordinary, culminating in a celebration luau on the final night, October 26th.

Thirteen years later, after so many more journeys to Australia, Japan and other places, Uncle left the physical world on October 26th, 2009.

Thankyou, Uncle ~ teacher, friend, challenging wise one.  You are ohana (family), and you have gifted me with lineage.  I love you.  Aloha.  Mahalo a nui.

And from Geoff

I first met Uncle George in 1989, a year of travel, learning and opening. He was there in all his purple-coloured majesty, singing, chanting, playing ukulele, telling stories and gazing at the world with the sight that comes from a far distance….. a distance of ages peopled with kings, warriors, kahunas, dancers, lovers and artists. Much will be said and written of this remarkable soul, and all of it will be with Aloha. He was Aloha.

Thankyou Uncle. You gifted me and so many countless others such precious moments of your life. Your smile, laughter, touch and generosity will be always with me. Travel well.

  Mahalo a nui.
