Beyond Management

Management primarily involves dealing with what is already present ~ Leadership is about leading the way to growth ~ which means the company's managers need to be not just competent and confident to handle change themselves, but skilled in ways that support others in handling change and bringing about those desired results.

Managers are people, too. Faced with an extraordinary and unprecedented rate of change, commonly, people are experiencing stress, insecurity ~ as what is demanded of them rapidly outstrips the knowledge and skills they were equipped with to meet those demands ~ and fear that they won't be able to keep up. Like computers, yesterday's skills are redundant today, superceded by more flexible models with capabilities that, back then, were only dreamed of

Faced with this rate of change, the tendency is to fall back on past and proven behaviours. The problem is that those old strategies simply don't mount what is necessary to handle what is currently required. At best, failing systems are propped up ~ at worst, corporations (and people) begin to fall behind.

What becomes evident is that technique cannot be learned fast enough to stay in front.

Rather, what is needed is an understanding of process that generates whatever technique is most effective in the moment.

This requires a paradigmatic shift in thinking, from focusing on what outcomes need to be achieved to focusing on how outcomes can best be achieved. Then successfully achieved outcomes becomea measure of effectiveness, rather than drivers.

The difference is subtle ~ and crucial ~ if corporate vision is to be fulfilled.

After all, the vision is a context within which there will be many, many goals ~ outcomes that will be benchmarks showing the company's growth and success.

So it becomes obvious that effective management has more to do with knowing how to achieve outcomes on-goingly, than with meeting or exceeding any current target.

People can be driven to rise to a particular occasion; more useful is to support them in on-going productivity and expansion.

All of this presents a particular challenge to those already in management roles, and to those who are aspiring to them.

To lead effectively, managers need to:
* Embrace that paradigmatic shift themselves
* Know how to communicate effectively, especially so that they truly support their people in carrying out whatever is required to handle change and achieve growth.
* Understand the dynamics of change and what makes the difference between stress and enthusiasm.
* Know how to be a leader in a way that is congruent with their personal values.
* Know how to achieve and maintain maximum flexibility, moving away from confrontational management and issues of control to developing themselves and their people as part of a healthy Learning Organisation,.
* Be comfortable with change, personally, and in their roles as leaders.

TRAINING OUTCOMES:
This five day training is designed to support managers in meeting those requirements effectively.

This training acknowledges the importance of preserving and enhancing the company's 'intellectual capital'.

It responds by enabling individuals in this management group, personally, and as leaders capable of supporting personnel reporting to them to function optimally.

SPECIFIC BENEFITS INCLUDE:
* Increased ability to handle and manage change
* Greater flexibility and capacity to generate effective methods
* Raised awareness of communication styles and dynamics and how to use that knowledge to make life easier for all
* Knowing how to set and achieve win/win outcomes
* Knowing how to elicit co-operation and commitment so that people are able to operate and work most effectively in a competitive environment.
* Increased communication skills including the ability to use language to deliver messages appropriately.
* Understanding what motivates people and knowing how to align personal, team and company values.
* Increased ability to 'let go and go with the flow' at the same time as leading and directing it, more effectively dealing with issues of control and influence.
* Being considerably more comfortable and less stressed in leadership and change management roles.
* Increased confidence in personal ability to learn and grow and to enable that confidence, learning and growth in others.

METHOD:
The Training combines delivery and discussion of information, models, concepts with exercises designed to give managers the opportunity to learn the material experientially.

This means that instead of just having ideas about the material, they will have behavioural resources available that will become more accessible, the more they use them.

As well as training sessions in a group over the five days, the program includes a private consultation for each manager, providing the opportunity for individual requirements to be met.

AVAILABILITY: By Request
